Programme and methods of multimedia
transport network test trials
on 34 TV channel in DVB-T mode.
The programme aims at carrying out test trials of 34 TV
channel operation in DVB mode for transmitting multimedia information.
In the course of tests the zones of 1 KW transmitter coverage should be
defined for stationary and mobile reception, the optimum digital COFDM
modulator parameters are to be chosen and the possible influence of a
digital transmitter upon adjacent analogue TV channels should be defined
as well.
1. Digital transmitter and coding equipment installation
(July - August 2001).
Installation of 1 KW digital TV transmitter of DVB 1G type made by "Tesla"
(Czechia) on 34 TV channel is carried out at the technical territory of
the Octode Ltd at the address: 24, Demiana Bednogo Str., Moscow 123308,
Russia. Height of the lowest dipole from the ground of the antenna is
153 m, antenna gain - 7 dB (as regards half-wave vibrator).
Statistical multiplexer CODICO RTV-3600 made by Israeli "Tabiran
Scorus" is used as central digital multiplexer of the system.
2. Test of digital transmitter at different output power
and digital stream rates. Definition of character of mutual effect and
protection ratios of adjacent air TV channels and cable TV distribution
network (September - December 2001).
At this stage an instrumental control of mutual influence of adjacent
analogue 35 and 33 TV channels upon reception and demodulation of a digital
stream of the 34 TV digital channel and also inverse effect of a digital
transmitter operation upon existing analogue channel reception are being
carried out. The level of influence of a digital transmitter operation
upon the receiving distribution network of cable TV especially in the
neighbouring zone is defined as well.
3. Test trials of digital transmitter in the mode of multimedia
transport network (January - April 2002).
To carry out test trials of a digital transmitter of the 34 TV channel
in the mode of multimedia transport network of data transfer one should
connect an IWG - 600 data incapsulator made by Israeli "Tabiran Scorus"
to one of input ports of the system central multiplexer.
At this stage of test trials the following problems are investigated:
a) Authenticity and also maximum and medium rate of information data packets
transfer for stationary and mobile network users;
b) Information transfer rate by TCP / IP protocol inside the system under
investigation with an output to external sites;
c) Total time of delaying the packets transfer inside the investigated
system with different amounts of information;
d) Quality of video information transfer by TCP / IP protocol inside the
investigated system;
e) Possibility to operate the network without data multiplex as the incapsulator
used has got a DVB - ASI output interface and can operate directly with
DVB modulator of the transmitter;
f) Variants and structure of the setup of DVB transmitter's digital communication
path with different information stream sources.
4. Test trials of DVB receiving equipment for stationary
and mobile reception (April - June 2002).
For stationary and mobile reception of transport MPEG-2 DVB-T streams
the receiving set-top-box devices are used which get connected to the
computer or special PCI standard cards installed directly in the computer.
At this stage of the test trial it is assumed to carry out:
- test of different set-top-box types made at present including home-made
user set-top-box for reception of DVB-T "Elf" produced by JSC
Telecom;
- optimum choice of devices fit for good quality reception of DVB-T digital
steams at different rates in mobile and stationary variants;
- reliability and stability of the software made by different manufacturers;
- types and specification of the receiving antennas for different reception
conditions and character of transmitted information.
